Abstract:
Dialogue is a rhetorical structure used in discussing scientific and philosophical topic, which was largely employed during the 15th and the 16th centuries. This analysis shows the development of dialogue throughout the history of French scientific texts with the purposes of theoretical discussion and popularisation of knowledge, by observing its main features. The discussion about the notion of 'practice' vs 'theory' is analyzed through the examples drawn from the dialogue-based works by Bernard Palissy , the " Architecture et ordonnance de la grotte rustique" (1563), the "Recepte veritable" (1563) and the " Discours admirables" (1580).
