The volume is a collaborative reference work on the history of English through time and space. Unlike previous reference works, the volume takes stock of the major shifts and advances in linguistic research in the last decade, namely the dramatic increase in the availability of large electronic corpora and other digital databases, and offers an innovative cross-field and cross-theoretical approach to the analysis of language change in English.
